In this session, Giles will aim to demystify the process of engaging with public policy actors and highlight the support available from Public Policy|Southampton (PPS).
You will examine what public policy is, identify and learn to empathise with policymakers and find out how PPS can help researchers achieve policy impact.
You will also explore the issues of engaging with local government and central government, working with civil society and Parliamentary scrutiny.
The session will run for just over an hour and will have a Q&A session
Giles brings more than a decade’s worth of experience working between central and local government and the higher education sector.
In his current role, he is responsible for the strategic direction of PPS, financial sustainability of the team and internal and external stakeholder management.
Giles is currently working on policy engagement culture change within the University, specifically focusing on developing mechanisms that support and celebrate the successes of our diverse range of world leading Early Career Researchers.
